Chocolate and Me...

One fine morning, when the sun was bright;
I was craving for chocolate, straight from night.
I ran to my mother, jumped and gave her kiss,
She gave me my chocolate as she promised.
I was holding it tight, like the rat in eagle’s claw,
Enjoying it thoroughly which my brother had saw.
He came with a report card, pretending to whine,
Said he’ll give me a bigger one, if I got it signed.
I made my way toward the terrace for solace,
After giving him my best ‘Do you think I’m stupid face’?
I wave a pretentious hello to my despicable neighbor,
Smiling at him, is itself a big favor.
Besides failing a hundred times, he offered this time straight,
‘I’ll shower you with chocolate if you’ll agree for a date.’
Feeling disgusted by his shoddy words,
Shivered for a while, with everything I heard.
I pack my chocolate along with my books,
School will be better to enjoy, as of now it looks.
Opening my lunch box, eyes themselves shone,
A classmate came running, disturbing my comfort zone.
He saw the chocolate and knew how much it I adore,
Begged me for assignment, promised to bring more.
On the way back home, I was hopping and singing,
Just eating my chocolate, no one was pinging.
There came an acquaintance, offering me ride,
‘I’ll buy you more from the shop on other side.’
I refused with a fake smile, saying I can manage,
Knew he wanted nothing, but to take advantage.
Threw my bag away, hiding face in my pillow,
How can a fish breath, in a sea so shallow?
Holding my chocolate still in my hand,
Happiness has disappeared which whole day I pretend.
‘You are not my weakness, that everyone tries to use,
Leaving you for those idiots, I solely refuse.’
Wiping my tear away, I ate the last bite,
‘You are a necessary ingredient, for my soul’s diet.’
A girl with a chocolate is not always approachable,
She might be innocent, may be in some ancient fable.
Don’t try to buy her at this silly cost,
Sense of security is something she needs the most.

  9. Very well written wherein chocolate becomes a crafty tool by which every single person tries to lure innocence. Even the best of things in the world can be misused. Your message is conveyed through the poem.
